Taliban take comfort in US withdrawal plans

WASHINGTON (AFP) – Taliban officials have been given expectation they can succeed in the war as a consequence of President Barack Obama’s July 2011 deadline. That is to start withdrawing US troops from Afghanistan,

But it was told by the General James Conway that the insurgents will be let down when they discover that no key withdrawal is on the edge among US forces deployed in the Taliban.

Conway’s forthright estimation is certain to rise debate over Obama’s war strategy and also the July 2011 date, giving missiles for Republican lawmakers who have wretched the deadline as lacking resolve in the nearly 9-year-old war.

Obama’s fellow Democrats in Congress and White House officials do not offend the deadline as a way of approaching Afghan leaders to do something quickly to take charge of their protection.

The US president faces mounting public opposition to the war.

Conway said Taliban foot soldiers would mostly undergo a blow to their morale after July 2011 passes with no dramatic departure of American forces.

The general, just returned from a visit to Afghanistan, said government army and police forces in key southern provinces will not be ready to take over from foreign troops for at least “a few years,” and that he had told his Marines to brace for a long fight.

Conway told reporters, referring to Marines deployed in the provinces of Helmand and Kandahar.

Conway said some Afghan units “somewhere” might be able to assume the lead for security in 2011 but not in the south, the birthplace of the Taliban.

He also approved that public support for the US mission was drastically reducing but was previously warned of the risks of any previous withdrawal.

Conway pleaded for patience, naming a fellow commander’s assessment that they can either lose very quickly or may win slowly.

Avatar’ (3D) – The phenomenal film is back in a new avatar!

Several films are born with a fortune and an inherent sense of timing, one such is Avatar… How else can you explicate the timing of the re-release of a miracle “Avatar”. On Wednesday, the Indian government refused to give clearance to a mining project by Vedanta in Orissa citing ecological grounds. This news spread across the world as this meant the protection of the Dongri-Kondh tribals and their way of living. “Avatar”, is in effect, their story, as it is the story of tribal’s throughout the ages.

When “Avatar” released almost a year back, it touched many chords globally with its story set in the far-off  and distinct planet of Pandora where a giant corporation is out to extract the minerals and disturb the living of the tribal’s on that rich planet,.

Besides dazzling audiences with its splendid 3D effects, it’s simple yet politically supercharged story became an symbol for the struggle of aborigines through the ages to protect their life and nature against the attack of ‘development’. Once in a blue moon in the history of cinema, has a any film managed to endear itself to such a different  and variant cross section of society.

A warm welcome that the film finds as a re-release with nine minutes of extended footage, with such a flawless timing. The new footage comprises scenes of cow hunting by the Naavi tribe, glow worms, and some extended fight sequences are extended. The film earned USD 3 billion, and claimed to be the highest grossing film of all time.

One way to explain the extraordinary timing of “Avatar” is the fact that the war between tribal’s who want to protect their way of life and living and trigger-happy men willing to shove their idea of development on them, is as old as the forests and hills they protect. This war t has continued for millenniums and will continue to fume forever.

Three million affected by Pakistan flood

ISLAMABAD – The nastiest floods in remembrance in Pakistan have occurred. They have affected approximately more than 3 million people until now. The death toll has massively increased over 1,400, as told by a spokesman for the U.N. Children’s Fund on Tuesday.

Abdul Sami Malik said 1.3 million people were severely affected by the floods in the northwest, triggering heavy criticism of the government over its response to the disaster.

Pakistani authorities and officials are working hard to aid sufferers of the flooding. Many of them have lost their homes and source of revenue. The victims said that they had not been acknowledged with any official warnings that uncontrolled waters were about to attack them.

Malik told that aid agencies and Pakistani government officials will gather on Tuesday to establish if there is an urgent requirement to make an international appeal for any further assistance.

Islamist charities, have led their hands to offer assistance. They played a major role in the aid attempt following an earthquake in Kashmir in 2005. It killed about 75,000 people.

Officials expect the death toll to significantly augment, with predictions of the intense monsoon rains that have been pouring and destroying the area since the previous week. Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority told that almost more than 29,500 houses were destroyed and a major trade highway to China was blocked due to excessive flooding.

President Asif Ali Zardari’s government is by now ostracized because of prevalent allegations of corruption and its collapse to deal with politically-explosive issues such as chronic power cut.

Waters have receded in some flooded areas. But Malik has articulated worry that waters were scattering from the most terrible hit province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the Pakistan’s Punjab heartland, which is considered to be the major food-producing province, and also as the Sindh region.

Heidi Montag Files For Divorce; Spencer Pratt Calls Marriage a “Show” For The Hills

Ever since the primary reports of Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt splitting up, Hillsfans understandably assumed wondered if it was one more big PR hoax. Looks like it isn’t. Almost two months following the plastic princess went to court looking for legal separation from the puppet master, the reality star has filed for divorce. Heidi Montag cites the usual “irreconcilable difference” as the cause for the pair’s split in a divorce appeal filed in Santa Monica, Calif., Court. “Heidi has amended her appeal for separation and has filed an appeal for closure of marriage from Spencer Pratt,” attorney Jodeane Farrell said. The couple has decided they would like their divorce to be finalized in a timely manner.” Adding that conditions will be hashed out in an out of court conclusion, Farrell said “both parties are friendly with each other and finalizing the divorce.” The couple staged a sham wedding in Cabo in 2008, then tied the knot for actual in April 2009 at a church in Pasadena, Calif., appearing cheerful. Things went downhill fast, however. Heidi Montag underwent 10 plastic surgery events in one day, fired Spencer as her manager, released dreadful music, accused The Hills creator Adam DiVello of sexual persecution and became alienated from her family and so on. For his part, Spencer Pratt has grown more and more eccentric, and even admitted to being a celebrity whore and choosing his “career” over his wife. He echoed that feeling yesterday to People. “I love Heidi but our marriage was a show – it was part of The Hills world,” Pratt said after the separation filing. “That world is on a sound stage.” Referring to himself in the third-person, he adds: “It’s clear that realism TV-fame-loving Spencer Pratt does not fit with my ex-wife Heidi Montag’s ambition for a motion picture actor/pop star profession and being a single sex symbol for the world.” “Some say if you can’t handle the high temperature get out of the kitchen, Well, Heidi couldn’t handle King Spencer’s reputation so she got out of the marriage.” So mostly, his stardom is just too huge. Makes sense!.

UN DECLARES ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER A HUMAN RIGHT

The General Assembly of the United Nations made a declaration that safe and clean drinking
water and sanitation is a human right essential to the full enjoyment of life and all other human
rights. The declaration voices the UN’s concern over the issue that almost 900 million people
worldwide do not have access to clean water. The UN also calls upon its member states and
other international organizations to support this cause by providing funds, technical support and
also other resources which can help poorer nations in their efforts to provide clean, accessible
and affordable drinking water and sanitation for everyone. Although 41 countries abstained
from voting, the resolution was passed with 122 votes in favor and zero votes against the cause.
The resolution cites certain facts: Approximately 884 million people lack access to safe drinking
water and more than 2.6 billion people do not have access to basic sanitation. About 1.5 million
children under the age of five die each year and 443 million school days are lost because of
unclean water and sanitation related diseases. The UN Independent Expert on the issue of
human rights obligations related to access to safe drinking water and sanitation, Catarina de
Albuquerque, has been asked to report annually to the UN General Assembly. The report will
primarily focus on the major challenges in achieving the right to safe and clean drinking water.
It will also address the progress made in this regard as part of the relevant Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs). The MDGs are a series of targets for reducing social and
economic ills the world over by 2015. Ms. Albuquerque presented her first report today in
which she highlighted some details from her nine-day official visit to Japan. She praised Japan
for its nearly 100 percent access to clean and safe water and its use of innovative technologies to
treat sewage water and promote hygiene. But she also expressed shock that some members of
the Utoro community near Kyoto, a predominantly Korean community, still did not have access

to safe water and were badly affected by the absence of a sewage system.
